R.A.D. female brooch. The Reichsarbeitdienst (R.A.D.) was founded in 1934 and was an auxiliary corps to the German Armed Forces (Wehrmachtsgefolge). The RAD was divided into two main sections: the Reichsarbeitsdienst Manner (RAD/M) for men and the Reichsarbeitdienst der weiblichen Jugend (RAD/wJ) for young women. The brooch existed in three degree classes: bronze, silver and gold. It was carried by women on the civil dress or to fix the neck handkerchief. What we present is the silver class. Marked on the back with the year of production: 1938, the R.A.D. acceptance mark, and the manufacturer trademark: F.W. Assmann & Sohne of Ludenscheid in North Rhine-Westphalia.
