The instrument was used by the gunners to adjust the inclination or the elevation of an howitzer, in this case the German 10.5 cm howitzer LeFH 18 (Leichte Feldhaubitze 18). The case is of the late period and is made in iron painted in feldgrau colour, the lid has the black stenciling: W.M. 35 (1/6400), the first patterns of these cases were made of wood. Inside there are some black painted notice and the waffenamt. The instrument is fully functional and has his measuring glass bubble intact. On the side of the case there is the production serial number: 4031 and the “beg” code of the producer: "Haff, Gebr., G.m.b.H." of Pfronten-Ried in Bavaria.
